Databases

The consortium leverages its work on already existing initiatives. Below is a list of some databases that the consortium works with regularly.

African Plant Breeding Academy (AfPBA)

The Seed Biotechnology Center at the University of California, Davis offers a professional development course to teach the principles of plant breeding to seed industry personnel. This two-year course addresses the reduced numbers of plant breeders being trained in academic programs.

The potential natural vegetation (PNV) map of eastern and southern Africa

The potential natural vegetation (PNV) map of eastern and southern Africa covers seven countries including Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia. The map is available in different formats and is accompanied by an extensive documentation of the floristic, physiognomic and other characteristics of the different vegetation types and useful woody species in the seven countries.

The Switchboard

The Agroforestry Species Switchboard is a platform that synthesizes information from different sources to support tree research and development activities. It is a “one-stop-shop” to retrieve data on a particular plant species across a wide range of information sources. Its objective is to provide information that supports research on trees and tree-based development activities such as agroforestry planting and wider restoration initiatives.

The Agroforestree Database

The Agroforestree (AFT) Database is a species reference and selection guide for agroforestry trees. Agroforestry trees are those that are deliberately grown or kept in integrated land-use systems and are often managed for more than one output. The Agroforestree Database provides information on the management, use and ecology of a wide range of tree species which can be used in agroforestry.

USDA nutrition database

This database provides nutrient information for food items, food groups and manufacturers' products. You can also generate lists of foods sorted by nutrient content.
